Outing June 7th 2009
Women group outing by coach to All Saints church Maidenhead and SGI-UK Buddhist
Centre Taplow Court took place. Ladies from churches, Hindu Society, Sikh temple
and Synagogue had a wonderful day out. They were shown around the church and the
centre. All Saints Church had extensive restoration work nearly completed.
Following Sunday a charity show took place called Harmony and Hamper that raised
£1500/-for the church restoration.
Action Team
- Presentation at the Sikh Temple May 5th 2009
Action Team (Methodist group) consisting of 2 boys and 2 girls made a
presentation at the Sikh temple. They took a year out of their study and spent 7
months working with street children in Kolkata, India. It was very well received
and children asked questions about their work. Parents also joined in and Rev
Nick Lowe from the church joined in.
Hansmukh Patel an active member of Maidenhead
Hindu Society/WAMCF died of heart attack at his home
town
in Gujarat while on holidays in India. He will be sadly
missed. Our condolences and sympathy with Mrs Patel and
his
three daughters.
Diversity Day was sponsored by RBWM & Windsor Housing this year. 1st part was display/stands/workshops, 2nd part (Bring & Share) FOOD and 3rd part: Multi-cultural Gala. All three sessions went well & were successful. Mayor Cllr Kemp opened it. Lead member for partnership made the opening speech. Theresa May MP, Chief Executive MDHA and Principal BCA also attended. Councillors and townhall staff visited the stands and talked to the committee. Windsor Housing stand showed the recently developed portfolio of WAMCF. Great day!!
Social Meal The evening was fully subscribed and successful. THANK YOU those who attended and contributed. I have excellent feedback. The whole atmosphere was good and friendly. Food and Music was excellent. I am grateful to everyone who turned up
Launch of Mobile Exhibition took place at the Town Hall Maidenhead in the Council Chamber on Monday 20th October 08 at 9.30am. It was opened by the Mayor of the Royal borough Cllr Dorothy Kemp who is the current President of the WAMCF. Nigel Cohen worked hard to collate it together. Mobile Exhibition is also available in digital form that can be loaded by schools and other interested parties. Exhibition will stay at the townhall for one week before moving to Maidenhead Library across the road. It will stay at library for 3 weeks. After one week's break it will travel to Windsor and Ascot. It was a social meal at the residence of The High Sheriff of Berkshire at Theale village. There were other friends from different faith/community groups from Slough and Reading present. This event took place on Saturday 6th September in the evening. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Open discussion took place on Social responsibility and personal freedom. The presiding Judge of Reading Crown Court, Honourable Judge Zoe Smith and her husband also joined the meeting.

Sikhs: are celebrating the festival of
Vasakhi in the month of April. It falls exactly on 14th

Sikhs in Maidenhead
will celebrate Vasakhi on 14th April at the gurdwrara
situated at 31 Rutland Road Maidenhead SL6 4HZ. The
proper celebration will be held at the following weekend
18,19,20 April 08/Three day event. Continuous reading of
the Guru Granth Sahib and changing of Nishan Sahib
(Flagpole)
Muslims: Will be
celebrating the birth of Prophet Mohammed on April 24th
at the Desborough Suite, Town Hall, Maidenhead SL6 1RF.
Netball went well. It was well attended and
Combined Newlands Girls School won the trophy. Revd
Jeremy Harris Vicar All Saints Church presented the
trophies. Fazal Awan gave away the medals to youngsters
and their supporters for participating. We are planning
to involve schools and train with them next year before
the event. We feel girls and ladies especially in Asian
culture need more pushing for exercise and sport. We
missed the team from Cookham.
Executive committee meeting took place on 8th
August 08 and we looked at our programme/dates of
events. I would like to draw your attention to the
remaining 3 events for this month. We have nearly 3/4
period covered and thank you so much for your
participation and support.
Brahma Kumaris Slough are hosting Shared
Prayers 6-9pm at Langley Pavilion, all invited.
