80th Anniversary of VE Day

VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the official end of the Second World War in Europe. On 8th May 1945, after nearly six years of conflict, Allied forces formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. Streets across Britain erupted in celebration, with crowds gathering, union flags flying, and a deep sense of relief and hope for the future.

In 2025, the 80th anniversary of VE Day will be a poignant occasion to remember those who served, those who sacrificed, and all who endured the hardships of war. It offers a moment not only to look back with gratitude, but to pass on the stories and lessons of the past to future generations.

How the UK May Mark the 80th Anniversary

  • National commemorations: Ceremonies, parades, and moments of silence will take place across the country, from London to local communities.

  • Church services and remembrance events: Reflective services will honour the fallen and those who lived through the war.

  • Stories and education: Schools, museums, and media may focus on sharing the real-life experiences of veterans and civilians from the wartime generation.

  • Celebrations of peace and unity: Alongside remembrance, there may be street parties, music, and community gatherings, echoing the spirit of 1945.

The 80th anniversary is not just a historical milestone—it’s a chance to reaffirm the values of resilience, unity, and peace, and to say thank you to those who made freedom possible.
