Islam: Start of Ramadan
Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam, observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
Islam: Eid-Ul-Fitr
Eid ul-Fitr is an important Islamic festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a day of gratitude, prayer, and celebration, when Muslims gather for special congregational prayers, give charity (Zakat al-Fitr), and share meals with family and community.
Hinduism: Holi
Holi, known as the Festival of Colors, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. In 2026, it is observed on Thursday, 5 March, based on the lunar calendar, on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna.
Judaism: Pesach
Pesach (often spelled Passover in English) is a major Jewish spring festival that celebrates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt, as described in the Bible’s Book of Exodus.
Christianity: Easter
Easter is the most significant festival in the Christian calendar, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion. It marks the triumph of life over death and is the culmination of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and reflection
Sikhism: Vaisakhi
Vaisakhi (or Baisakhi) is one of the most significant festivals in the Sikh calendar, commemorating the birth of the Khalsa in 1699. On this day, the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, established a collective body of initiated Sikhs dedicated to the principles of equality, justice, and courage.
Buddhism: Soka Gakkai Day
Soka Gakkai Day celebrates the spirit of ordinary people standing up with extraordinary courage.
Buddhism: Soka Gakkai Founding Day
Founding Day commemorates the courageous first step taken by ordinary individuals who chose faith, dialogue, and action over fear.
Christianity: Pentecost
Pentecost is often called the "birthday of the Church," marking the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and followers of Jesus.
Islam: Eid-Al-Adha
Eid al-Adha is expected to begin around Wednesday, 27 May 2026, and the celebratory period usually lasts three to four days depending on the sighting of the moon and local practice.
Brahma Kumaris: International Day of Yoga
World Meditation Day is celebrated by the Brahma Kumaris to honor the practice of meditation as a tool for inner peace, self-transformation, and global harmony.
Humanist: World Humanist Day
World Humanist Day, celebrated on June 21st, honors the philosophy of humanism, which emphasizes reason, ethics, and human welfare over supernatural beliefs.
Judaism: Rosh Hashanah
For 2026, Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish year 5787) will begin at sunset on Friday, 11 September 2026 and will continue until nightfall on Sunday, 13 September 2026. Because Jewish holidays start at sunset the evening before the secular date, observance begins on the evening of 11 September.
Judaism: Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, dedicated to repentance, reflection, and spiritual renewal. In 2026, it begins at sunset on Sunday, 20 September and ends at nightfall on Monday, 21 September.
Baháʼí Faith: Birth of the Báb Day
The Báb, meaning “Gate,” was born Siyyid `Alí Muḥammad Shírází on October 20, 1819, in Shiraz, Persia (Iran). He founded the Bábí faith, calling for spiritual renewal and preparing the way for Baháʼu’lláh, the founder of the Baháʼí Faith.
Sikhism: Bandhi Chorr Divas
Bandi Chhor Divas (Day of Liberation) commemorates the release of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, from prison in 1619. Showing true leadership, he refused to leave until 52 fellow political prisoners were also freed.
Hinduism: Diwali
Diwali holds religious significance, as families honor spiritual traditions, seek blessings for prosperity, and reflect on moral and ethical values, blending devotion with social festivities.
Hinduism: Hindu New Year
Hindu New Year marks the start of the Vikram Samvat 2083 year, a traditional lunar-solar Hindu calendar used in many regions. Known as Nutan Varsh or Gujarati New Year, it is considered an auspicious day for new beginnings, including opening new businesses, performing religious rituals (pujas), and buying gold or other valuables as symbols of prosperity.
Baháʼí Faith: Birth of Bahá’u’lláh
Bahá’u’lláh (meaning “Glory of God”) was born Mírzá Ḥusayn-`Alí Núrí on November 12, 1817, in Tehran, Persia (Iran). He is the founder of the Baháʼí Faith and is regarded by Baháʼís as the Messenger of God for this era, fulfilling the Báb’s prophecy.
Sikhism: Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab
To celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, Sikhs observe Gurpurab. It is one of the most sacred days in the faith, centered on his message of "Ik Onkar" (One God) and the equality of all humanity.
Judaism: Chanukah
Chanukah, or the Festival of Lights, is an 8-day Jewish holiday celebrating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil that lasted eight days. In 2026, it begins at sunset on Sunday, 13 December and ends at nightfall on Monday, 21 December.
Brahma Kumaris: International World Meditation Day
For the Brahma Kumaris, the International Day of Yoga (21 June) is not just a physical exercise day but a spiritual practice and awareness event. They emphasize Rajyoga meditation, inner silence, and connecting with the Supreme Soul (Shiva) as the true source of energy, peace, and balance.
Christianity: Christmas
For Christians, Christmas is a sacred "Mass for Christ" (Christ’s Mass) that celebrates the Incarnation—the belief that God became human in the person of Jesus Christ.

Brahma Kumaris observe Shivratri with intense meditation, silence, and introspection, often for the entire night, reflecting on the destruction of old habits, negativity, and ego, and the rebirth of soul consciousness.
Humanist: Darwin Day
Darwin Day is observed to commemorate the life and work of Charles Darwin and to celebrate the principles of scientific inquiry, evidence-based understanding, and curiosity about the natural world.
Brahma Kumaris: Brahma Baba Remembrance
Brahma Baba Remembrance is a celebration observed by the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organization to honor their founder, Lekhraj Kripalani, who is called Brahma Baba by followers. This day typically marks his birth anniversaryor other significant milestones in his spiritual work.

80th Anniversary of VE Day
VE Day marks the official end of World War II in Europe. On this day, Allied forces formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, bringing an end to nearly six years of conflict in Europe.

We are delighted to announce that Catherine Williams will be joining us as a guest speaker. Catherine will be introducing Healthwatch in Berkshire, an independent organisation that listens to people’s experiences with local health and social care services and ensures their voices help shape and improve future care.

Participants throw colourful powders, dance, sing, and celebrate together, symbolizing the breaking down of barriers and the renewal of relationships. Holi is a joyous occasion for communities to come together, forgive past grievances, and embrace the spirit of unity and joy.

Ash Wednesday (Christianity)
Ash Wednesday, on February 14, 2025, marks the start of Lent, a season of reflection, fasting, and repentance leading up to Easter. Christians gather for services where ashes are placed on their foreheads as a symbol of humility, mortality, and spiritual renewal. It is a day to pause, reflect, and begin the journey of renewal through prayer and self-discipline.

Palm Sunday (Christianity)
