Hinduism: Holi

Holi, known as the Festival of Colors, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. In 2026, it is observed on Thursday, 5 March, based on the lunar calendar, on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna. The festival is marked by throwing colored powders, singing, dancing, and festive gatherings, but it also has religious rituals, including prayers, offerings, and the lighting of bonfires on the eve of Holi (Holika Dahan) to symbolize the triumph of virtue over sin. Holi blends joyful social celebration with spiritual reflection, reminding participants of moral lessons from Hindu mythology while bringing communities together in vibrant, playful expression.
