Sikhism: Bandhi Chorr Divas

Bandi Chhor Divas (Day of Liberation) commemorates the release of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, from prison in 1619. Showing true leadership, he refused to leave until 52 fellow political prisoners were also freed. To celebrate this victory of justice, Sikhs light up their homes and Gurdwaras with candles and diyas, set off fireworks, and gather for communal meals (Langar) and prayers. In 2026, the celebration falls on Sunday, November 8th.
