Christianity: Easter

Easter is the most significant festival in the Christian calendar, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion. It marks the triumph of life over death and is the culmination of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and reflection. To celebrate, Christians attend special church services, such as sunrise vigils, and share festive meals with family, often featuring roast lamb or ham. Popular secular traditions include decorating and hunting for Easter eggs—symbols of new life—exchanging chocolate treats, and eating hot cross buns. In 2026, Easter Sunday falls on April 5th.
